Blight Farming Guide
Last Updated:July 26, 2024|Change Log
This Blight farming guide covers the basics of farming Blight as well as how to maximize your rewards and profitability.
Adding Blight to your map will spawn a fungal growth that when approached can be targeted with a purification pump, doing so will start the encounter. Upon beginning a timer will start and you will be granted a set amount of resources which can be used to construct and upgrade defensive towers to aid you.
After the initial timer ends monsters will begin spawning from tendrils attached to the fungal growth. Monsters that reach the growth will deplete the life of the pump, if it reaches 0 you fail and receive substantially less rewards. Defend it for long enough and you will be rewarded based on how many tendrils were attached to the growth. Slaying monsters will grant additional resources for you to upgrade and build more towers, use them to make the defence easier.
The Exclusive rewards offered by Blight are consistently valuable throughout the league as such it is considered a solid money maker also most build can also easily farm it effectively in end game.
Mechanics
When Farming Blight there are a number of key mechanics to watch out for to ensure you're achieving maximum rewards.
Reward Chests - Upon completing a blight encounter the tendrils attached the fungal growth will be transformed into loot chests! Each tendril may have multiple chests with the most effective blight strategies aiming to focus all the chests on one tendril. Higher tier maps contain more blighted chests per fungal growth, it is important to know that the amount of tendrils on the blight has no impact on how many reward chests it will spawn.
Signature Reward - When farming blight you will be guaranteed to spawn at least one blight reward chest on one of your tendrils, that reward chest is tied to it specifically meaning it will spawn all of its chests as blight reward chests! These chests drop valuable Blighted Maps and Oils that are used for Anointments.
Enemy Pathing - All enemies that spawn from tendrils must follow the exact path the tendril lays out on the ground, you can use this to your advantage to assist with defending the pump and constructing towers effectively.
Manipulating Tendrils - When a blight spawns in the map the amount of tendrils it spawns is determined by how large the area is around it. One of the tendrils is guaranteed to spawn all its rewards as blighted reward types it is most profitable to limit the amount of tendrils to concentrate the chests on the blight reward type.
Blight Bosses - Tendrils in higher tier maps have a chance to spawn one or multiple bosses on a tendril. These bosses can be incredibly dangerous but when defeated they will add an extra reward chest to that tendril making them a great boost to profitability.
Blight Towers - All resources you accumulate should be spent on minion towers to distract enemies and slow down their advance on the purification pump. Once you reach a decision point for upgrading your towers, turn them into Sentinel towers (Flying Robot Swarms) as they provide fantastic single target damage that can help deal with blight bosses.
How To Run It
The most efficient way to run Blight is to aim to complete as many as you can on the most enclosed layout maps as possible. Doing so will concentrate reward chests on as few blight tendrils as possible granting the highest chance at more oils and blighted maps your main money makers.
When running blight it is recommended that you place a portal down at the start of the encounter to ensure you do not fail even if you die. In the short grace period after the start of the mechanic construct as many minion towers around the pump as possible and then fast forward the encounter to skip the wait time. Continue building and upgrading minion towers.
Step 1 - Run the map normally until you encounter the Blight
Step 2 - Clear all monsters surrounding the area.
Step 3 - Begin the encounter and construct your minion towers
Step 4 - Upgrade and continue building until you win
Step 5 - Collect your loot and complete the rest of the map
Atlas Passives
Atlas passives are a massive boost to Blights and understanding which ones are worth taking is essential, refer to our review below.
Templar Ingenuity | Allows you to salvage Blight Towers after the encounter for additional rewards. The rewards are improved for each different Tower type build during the encounter and higher tier Towers grant better rewards.
Immune Response | Increases the difficulty of blights substantially but also increases the quantity and spawn rate of monsters. This node is generally only taken after you have a firm grasp of Blight and can handle it's challenge doing so will yield higher rewards though.
Epidemiology | Grants every Blight chests in your Maps 20% chance to be openable again. This can lead to inconsistent profits but on average should increase your overall drops from Blight Chests by 20%.
Fungal Bloom | Increases the chance to encounter blights normally. This effect is reasonable in an event you have limited access to chaos orbs for Kirac blight or Blight Scarabs but if you have either it is not worth allocating.
Sturdy Construction | Makes Blights substantially easier. If you are struggling you can consider allocating this but it offers no additional rewards so is always ignored in the endgame.
Fungal Horizons | Grants you 60% more chance to find Blighted Maps in Blight Chests. Additionally after completing a Blight Encounter in your Maps grants all Players Blightreach. Blightreach grants a chance for Maps found to drop as Blighted Maps instead. This allows you to scale the amount of Blighted Maps you drop with increases to regular Map drops.
Blightspawn | This Atlas Passive makes 1 Lane of Blight Encounters in your Maps guarded only by Blight Bosses and every time you defeat a Blight Boss you have 10% chance to add an additional Reward Chest. If you get lucky this can massively increase your rewards.
Cassia's Pride | Is a special keystone that empowers Blight towers by 300% at the cost of causing you to deal 1/4 of the damage to blighted enemies. This keystone is less efficient in endgame but can be useful early if your character is struggling with blight encounters. |
Scaling Loot
Multipliers
Increased Item Quantity - Does not directly increase the quantity of loot from blight chests which are the main source of our loot from this strategy meaning it is not essential. Increased item quantity will increase the loot from monsters though which can provide some benefit.
Increased Item Rarity - Does not affect the rewards from blighted chests similar to quantity so should not be prioritised.
Increased Pack Size - Multiplies the amount of monsters that spawn from each tendril increasing the amount of generic loot you can expect from blight but will not increase the blighted reward chest rewards.
Scarabs
Blight Scarab - Adds a guaranteed blight to the map making blight farming consistent. At a minimum you should always use at least this scarab in blight strategies, unless you have 100% chance to spawn it from all Atlas Passive Skills.
Blight Scarab of Blightheart - This scarab makes the encounter have only 1 Blight Chest but it becomes significantly more rewarding.
Blight Scarab of Blooming - Adds 3 additional bosses to the Blight encounter and converts all tier 14+ Blighted maps into Ravaged Blighted maps. This improved version of Blighted Map normally rarely drops from Blighted Maps which makes them very expensive. This scarab skips this step allowing you to generate a large amount of Ravaged Blighted Maps from regular maps.
Blight Scarab of Invigoration - Makes every Empowering Tower grant nearby Blighted Monsters in range increased difficulty and rewards.
Kirac Modifier
Additional Blight - The map device offers a "Kirac modifier" that adds a blight to the map for a modest chaos orb fee. This modifier should only be used when you do not have access to Blight Scarabs or 100% chance to spawn it from Atlas Passive Tree.
Enchantment - While running maps with the Spores on the Wind atlas passive allocated some of your maps will drop enchanted. These blight enchanted maps will be guaranteed a blight within, however they only increase profit if you are not already using Blight Scarabs best case scenario they will allow you to save a scarab for that map.
Map Choice
For maximum efficiency run Blight on maps that are fast for your build but have incredibly enclosed layouts to force as few tendrils as possible.
The tighter the map the better as fewer tendrils will spawn guaranteeing more blight reward chests. On incredibly tight maps it's possible to spawn only 1 tendril from your blight giving you an absurd amount of blight reward chests!
Core Map | Core - Is the best layout to get the fewest blight tendrils and as a result the most blight reward chests. The layout and boss are completely terrible however so many players choose to run a different map or skip the boss. |
Toxic Sewer Map | Toxic Sewer - Is considered to be the best map for blight as it's incredibly fast to run and also has reasonable spawn positions for the blight to force a low amount of tendrils. |
Waste Pool Map | Waste Pool - An alternative to toxic sewer when it is unavailable on the atlas. Waste pool is also a popular choice when it is available as a horizonable map allowing for easy map sustain. |
Selling Your Loot
Here are the drops you can expect to acquire with this strategy, follow our Bulk Selling guide to learn more about how to sell them or pick up some advanced sales tricks in our dedicated Blight farming builds.
Blighted Maps
Oils And Extractors
Other Loot
Filtering
Low Tier Oils - Oils are such a common drop during Blights that it can be tedious to loot the lower tier ones from every chest you open. Low tier oils can be hidden at your discretion to avoid dealing with them every map you run. Oils that are completely safe to hide are:
- Clear Oil
- Sepia Oil
- Amber Oil
Oil Extractors
Oil Extractors can be used by players to acquire expensive oils from anointed jewelry. Due to Blight Atlas passives anointed jewelry drops consistently from Blight encounters.
If you are able to identify which anoints on jewelry are worthy of using extractors on, you can accumulate more high tier oils from your farming sessions. Unfortunately though, learning which pieces of jewelry to use extractors on is very challenging.
