Blood, Frost, and Death Timeline Guide
Last Updated:February 20, 2024|Change Log
Blood, Frost, and Death is themed around Cold and Necrotic damage. These Timeline Blessings are centered around increasing weapon drop rates. It's also great to farm Exsanguinous with its Body Armours echo rewards.
In this guide we cover Echo and Boss rewards, Blessings, Strategies, Dangerous Monsters and Echo Modifiers. Let’s get started!
Check out the Monolith Beginner Guide for an in depth breakdown of the Monolith of Fate.
Echo Rewards
Echo rewards are found on individual echoes inside of the Timeline web. Each echo has its own reward, and players can see the reward type before starting the echo. The player receives the reward when they complete the echo and return to the timeline hub.
They allow you to target specific pieces of gear such as Exalted items, Idols and Uniques or they can reward gold or experience. These are restricted to Uniques which are not boss or quest exclusives. In the Fall of the Outcasts Timeline, you encounter Body Armour echo rewards.

Boss
All Timeline bosses have a pool of exclusive Uniques that can drop. They also provide the player with a Blessing, which is a permanent buff to either power or farming/leveling efficiency. Just like Uniques, each boss has their own exclusive Blessing pool.
The Blood, Frost, and Death Timeline boss, Formosus the Undying, is themed around Void damage. After killing him, you unlock the timeline you choose in the first quest between Ending the Strom and Fall of the Empire. Don't worry, you can unlock both in Empowered Monolith.
To get a closer look at his mechanics and strategies, look at the Formosus the Undying Timeline Boss Guide.
Formosus the Undying can drop 4 Uniques and 1 Set item:
- Frozen Eyes of Formosus has a 50% chance to drop. It is mutually exclusive to Last Steps of the Living, meaning you always get one or the other, but not both. It can drop from normal and empowered versions. The drop rate is not affected by corruption.
- Last Steps of the Living has a 50% chance to drop. It is mutually exclusive to Frozen Eyes of Formosus, meaning you always get one or the other, but not both. It can drop from regular and Empowered versions. The drop rate is not affected by corruption.
- Frostbite Shackles is a rare drop. The drop rate is increased by higher Corruption. It can technically drop off of normal Formosus the Undying; however the area level must be increased to at least 74 for it to drop. We recommend farming this on Empowered.
- Eulogy of Blood is a rare drop that can only be found in Empowered. Increases in Corruption improves the drop rate of this item.
- Lich's Scorn is a common drop that can be found in any difficulty.
See the Empowered Monolith Guide for more info on Corruption.

Quests
In the Monolith of Fate all Timelines have 3 quests, each requiring Stability to start. The third one is the Timeline boss, which resets your Stability once defeated. In the Normal Monolith you need to do the first 2 quests to fight the Timeline boss, but in the Empowered Monolith you can fight him immediately if you choose.
- In the Blood, Frost, and Death Timeline, your first quest is Wengari Battleground. In it the Immortal Empire advances into the north to recruit Wengari to their efforts. Two tribes of Wengari are split as they struggle to survive against the Immortal Empire's attacks. Choose an ally and turn the tide against the empire. Note: The area is split in two. The left path to unlock the Fall of the Empire timeline and the right path to unlock the Ending the Strom one.
- To start this quest you need 50 Stability in Normal and 150 Stability in Empowered.
- The second quest is Occupied Heoborea, where Undead Wengari ravage Heoborea. Protect the city and save its remaining inhabitants.
- To start this quest you need 150 Stability in Normal and 450 Stability in Empowered.
- The third quest is The Lair of Formosus, where you need to descend into the heart of Formosus the Undying Lair and rescue the living Wengari.
- To start this quest you need 300 Stability in Normal and 800 Stability in Empowered.
Strategies
Blood, Frost, and Death is themed around Void with its monsters, bosses and quests.
- Cap your Void resistance.
- Avoid these echo layouts:
- Alpine Halls
- Necropolis Caverns
- Prefer these echo layouts:
- Boreal Forest
- Twisted Mire
- If you take too much damage avoid these echo modifiers:
- Increased damage of all types
- Enemies have increased critical strike chance
- Enemies are Deadly if they have not been damaged recently
Dangerous Monsters
Each Timeline has its own set of deadly monsters that you need to know about. Learning their abilities and how to avoid them are key to surviving in Monolith as Echo Rewards are removed when you die.
Desecrated Fleshs have massive Health pools, AoE and a potential one shot mechanic. Their abilities deal Physical damage and are well telegraphed; dodge the circular attack by either going in its center or stepping back. Watch out for when they are about to throw their boulder, don't stay in the telegraphed area.
Soul Cages are dangerous in melee as their Soul Fire Breath can decimate you. Their abilities deal Necrotic damage in melee range. Dodge their Soul Fire Breath by going behind them to avoid taking serious damage.
Pay attention to Immortal Eyes's self-destruct ability. Their main ability shoots Necrotic homing projectiles in melee range that are easy to dodge by moving. At 45% health they glows and self-destructs, dealing massive Necrotic damage.
Profane Flesh have massive Health pools, AoE and a potential one shot mechanic. Their abilities deal Physical and Necrotic damage and are well telegraphed; dodge them to avoid serious damage. Watch out for when they are about to throw a rock above their head and avoid the telegraphed area.
Ice Goliaths are deadly because of their massive AoE and damage. Their abilities deal mostly Cold damage and are well telegraphed; move away from them to avoid taking serious damage.
