Fall of the Outcasts Timeline Guide

Last Updated:February 20, 2024|Change Log

Fall of the Outcasts is the first Timeline you encounter in the Monolith of Fate. It is themed around Necrotic damage. This is by far the easiest Timeline. The normal version has the lowest stability requirement to progress and the Timeline boss is one of the easiest in the game.

In this guide we cover Echo and Boss rewards, Blessings, Strategies, Dangerous Monsters and Echo Modifiers. Let’s get started!

Fall of the Outcasts island

Check out the Monolith Beginner Guide for an in depth breakdown of the Monolith of Fate.

Echo Rewards

Echo rewards are found on individual echoes inside of the Timeline web. Each echo has its own reward, and players can see the reward type before starting the echo. The player receives the reward when they complete the echo and return to the timeline hub.

They allow you to target specific pieces of gear such as Exalted items, Idols and Uniques or they can reward gold or experience. These are restricted to Uniques which are not boss or quest exclusives. In the Fall of the Outcasts Timeline, you encounter Bow and Quiver echo rewards.

Boss

All Timeline bosses have a pool of exclusive Uniques that can drop. They also provide the player with a Blessing, which is a permanent buff to either power or farming/leveling efficiency. Just like Uniques, each boss has their own exclusive Blessing pool.

The Fall of the Outcasts Timeline boss, Abomination, is themed around Necrotic damage. After killing him, you choose which Timeline to unlock between The Stolen Lance and The Black Sun, choose The Black Sun first. Don't worry, you can unlock both in Empowered Monolith.

To get a closer look at his mechanics and strategies, look at the The Abomination Timeline Boss Guide.

Abomination can drop 4 different Uniques:

  • Woven Flesh has a 50% chance to drop. It is mutually exclusive to Ribbons of Blood, meaning you always get one or the other, but not both. It can drop from normal and empowered versions. The drop rate is not affected by corruption.
  • Ribbons of Blood has a 50% chance to drop. It is mutually exclusive to Woven Flesh, meaning you always get one or the other, but not both. It can drop from regular and Empowered versions. The drop rate is not affected by corruption.
  • Flayer's Pride is a rare drop. The drop rate is increased by higher Corruption. It can technically drop off of normal Abomination; however the area level must be increased to at least 65 for it to drop. We recommend farming this on Empowered.
  • Strands of Souls is a rare drop that can only be found in Empowered. Increases in Corruption improves the drop rate of this item.

See the Empowered Monolith Guide for more info on Corruption.

Quests

In the Monolith of Fate all Timelines have 3 quests, each requiring Stability to start. The third one is the Timeline boss, which resets your Stability once defeated. In the Normal Monolith you need to do the first 2 quests to fight the Timeline boss, but in the Empowered Monolith you can fight him immediately if you choose.

  • In the Fall of the Outcasts Timeline, your first quest is The Ransacked Camp. In it you return to the remains of the Outcast Camp to find any survivors.
    • To start this quest you need 80 Stability in Normal and 200 Stability in Empowered.
  • The second quest is Maj'Elka Streets, where the final stand takes place between the living and the undead. Fight for the survival of the living.
    • To start this quest you need 160 Stability in Normal and 400 Stability in Empowered.
  • The third quest is The Altar of Flesh, where you fight Abomination. In there, bodies of Outcasts are going to be used to create an abomination for further research into immortality. Rescue the captured Outcasts before it is too late.
    • To start this quest you need 240 Stability in Normal and 800 Stability in Empowered.

Strategies

Fall of the Outcasts is the first Timeline you have access to. It is themed around Necrotic damage with it's monsters, bosses and quests.

  • Prioritize capping your Physical and Necrotic resistances. As soon as you get into the Fall of the Outcasts Timeline.
  • Avoid echoes whose objectives are to kill Profane Fleshes. They have too much HP. You can use your portal as soon as you see that objective, it doesn't remove the echo reward and you can do it again to gain a different objective.
  • Avoid these echo layouts:
    • Necropolis Cavern
  • Prefer these echo layouts:
    • Twisted Mire
  • If you take too much damage avoid these echo modifiers:
    • Increased damage of all types
    • Enemies have increased critical strike chance

Dangerous Monsters

Each Timeline has its own set of deadly monsters that you need to know about. Learning their abilities and how to avoid them are key to surviving in Monolith as Echo Rewards are removed when you die.

Desecrated Flesh
Soul Cage
Immortal Eye
Profane Flesh
Gorgon

Desecrated Fleshs are threatening early in Monolith as they have massive Health pools, AoE and a potential one shot mechanic. Their abilities deal Physical damage and are well telegraphed; dodge the circular attack by either going in its center or stepping back. Watch out for when they are about to throw their boulder, don't stay in the telegraphed area.

Soul Cages are dangerous in melee as their Soul Fire Breath can decimate you. Their abilities deal Necrotic damage in melee range. Dodge their Soul Fire Breath by going behind them to avoid taking serious damage.

Pay attention to Immortal Eyes's self-destruct ability. Their main ability shoots Necrotic homing projectiles in melee range that are easy to dodge by moving. At 45% health they glow and self-destruct, dealing massive Necrotic damage.

Profane Flesh are dangerous early in Monolith as they have massive Health pools, AoE and a potential one shot mechanic. Their abilities deal Physical and Necrotic damage and are well telegraphed; dodge them to avoid serious damage. Watch out for when they are about to throw a rock above their head and avoid the telegraphed area.

Gorgons are deadly because of the tornado. It deals massive Poison damage and grows larger the longer it exists. Be careful when running directly towards a Gorgon as it puts you into the tornado's path.

Modifiers

Echoes have their own modifier that is active for a set number of echo. Every timeline gets its own pool of modifiers that you can scale with corruption. Some of these modifiers can be dangerous, while others can actually bring value with little or no downside.
