Gems

Last Updated:May 24, 2023

Gems are a very important resource in Diablo 2 with a variety of different uses. There are a total of 7 different Gem types with 5 quality levels. They can be upgraded by putting 3 Gems of the same type and quality into the Horadric Cube. An upgraded Gem provides the same Stats as the lower quality, but with increased values. In addition to socketing into items, Gems are used for crafting Items, upgrading Runes and numerous other Horadric Cube recipes. Due to crafting and the Horadric Cube recipe to reroll Magic Items (frequently used for Grand Charms) they have a decent value in trading. Once a Gem is put into an item, it will provide Stats according to the item slot  and the only way to remove it is using the Horadric Cube recipe Hel Rune + Scroll of Town Portal, which destroy the Gems in the process.
