Grenade Rogue Endgame Build Guide

Season 6 - Season of HatredEndgame

Last Updated:October 8, 2024|Change Log|FAQ

Welcome to the Grenade Rogue Endgame Guide! This specialized build features a unique playstyle focused on maximizing your damage with Opportunist's using Pitfighter's Gull and the other 3 Stun Grenade aspects: Trickster's, Surprise, and Artful Initiative. You focus on hunting Elites, grouping enemies near them, and blowing them to bits with an endless salvo of explosives.

Each time you enter and exit Stealth, you drop a set of 4 Stun Grenades, dealing damage and Stunning all enemies hit. The new Unique Pitfighter's Gull lets you do this easily by creating a smoke cloud that grants you Stealth every second while you remain inside. This means you can still perform other actions while periodically entering Stealth

By reducing the cooldown of Smoke Grenade to 5 seconds or less, each time you hit an Elite with Smoke Grenade you immediately reset its cooldown and can throw another thanks to Countering Smoke Grenade. This creates overlapping smoke clouds with individual Stealth timers from Pitfighter's Gull, significantly increasing the rate at which you enter and exit Stealth. Additionally, Trickster's activates each time you throw Smoke Grenade, dealing some more consistent damage.

The Grenade Rogue taps into the saboteur side of the Rogue, grouping your enemies together and blowing them up when the time is right. Continue reading to learn all there is to know about the Grenade Rogue.

  • Seething Opal of Torment
  • Seething Opal of Socketables

Skills & Gameplay

Season 6 - Season of Hatred
Grenade Rogue
  • Smoke Grenade is the conduit for all your damage. It creates a smoke cloud from Pitfighter's Gull to grant you Stealth. This activates Opportunist's and Trickster's. Smoke Grenade damage is fairly low, but it does get the scaling from your Grenade Aspects.
  • Heartseeker is used to activate the Marksman portion of Close Quarters Combat
  • Dash is used for mobility to get from pack to pack. In the Starter setup it also allows you to enter Stealth from Uncanny Treachery
  • Dark Shroud is activated from Umbrous to increase your Damage Reduction
  • Shadow Step grants you high mobility and Unstoppable when needed.
  • Death Trap activates Preparation and No Witnesses, increasing your damage and defense while grouping up Close enemies.
  • Caltrops adds a powerful damage buff with Enhanced Caltrops and is very helpful to take down tanky Elites and Bosses.
  • You use Close Quarters Combat as your Key Passive to significantly buff all of your damage after hitting Close enemies with Marksman and Cutthroat skills. Remember to weave in one of each type every 8 seconds to maintain the buff.
Grenade Rogue Endgame Skill Tree

Gameplay

  • Cast Heartseeker to activate Marksman Close Quarters Combat. Cast once every 8 seconds and remember the target needs to be Close to gain the buff.
  • Find an Elite and use Dash to activate Cutthroat Close Quarters Combat. Cast once every 8 seconds.
  • Throw Smoke Grenade to Daze all enemies and create a smoke cloud from Pitfighter's Gull to gain Stealth.
  • Cast Death Trap to activate Preparation and No Witnesses. Cast on cooldown in extended fights to maintain the buffs.
  • Continue throwing Smoke Grenades until all Elites are dead. Don’t linger on normal enemies as they don’t reduce Smoke Grenade's Cooldown.
  • (On difficult Elites and Bosses) Start with Caltrops and keep them inside the area to maintain the Enhanced Caltrops buff.

Rogue Specialization

Preparation - Spend Energy to reset your Ultimate Skill, which in turn resets all your other skills.

This allows you to reset your cooldowns when you cast Death Trap while giving you some extra Damage Reduction. The Grenade Rogue does not spend Energy but you reduce the cooldown of Death Trap by other means.

Important

Carefully check your Paragon Boards to ensure correct board rotation. Glyphs go from a radius of 3 to 4 at level 15 and from 4 to 5 at level 46. Some of them cannot be activated before reaching these thresholds! Progress through The Pit to rank up your Glyphs.

Use the slider to see the progression steps. At around Paragon 200, leveling slows down significantly and all important Rare clusters, Legendary nodes and Glyph sockets should be unlocked. Afterwards, you can min/max your build with minor tweaks and by picking up additional smaller nodes.

Runes

Season 6 - Season of Hatred
Grenade Rogue

You can have up to two Runewords in your setup, each consisting of one Ritual and one Invocation Rune. Socket them into your Armor pieces to replace normal gems. The Grenade Rogue focuses on the following combos:

Best in Slot
  • Yul - Wat - Whenever you cast Smoke Grenade, you gain a large amount of Offering to activate Decrepify. Decrepify helps with Stagger, defense, and executes enemies at 10% HP. When combined with Xol in your other Runeword it also generates large amounts of Offering for your second Runeword.
  • Xol - Ohm - Grants moderate uptime of War Cry to increase damage
Alternative Choices

If you haven't unlocked the final setup or found the top runes, you can also benefit from these options:

  • Zec - Reliably reduces your Ultimate cooldown
  • Bac - Consistently generates Offering in Speedfarming setups
  • Cir - Generates Offering when spamming Smoke Grenade
  • Poc - Another way of generating Offering
  • Xal - For extra defense
  • Gar - To reach 100% Critical Strike Chance more reliably
  • Yax - You drink potions frequently to maintainUnstable Elixirs
  • Lac - Invokes Challenging Shout for more defense.
  • Mot - You can use this before you have access to Umbrous in addition to taking Dark Shroud on your skill bar.

Mercenaries

Season 6 - Season of Hatred
Grenade Rogue

Mercenaries are unlocked during the Vessel of Hatred campaign and assist you in battle. There are 4 separate Mercenaries to choose from, each with their own skill trees and abilities. You can have one hired (permanent) mercenary during solo play and a reinforcement who assists you from time to time in certain situations.

Hired: Raheir

He offers you unparalleled defense that in turn buffs your offense. Valiance and Bastion reduce the damage you take and save you in dire situations. Inspiration gives you two great damage boosts as Raheir uses his skills either to save you or to attack enemies.

Reinforcement: Varyana

Call Varyana, the Berserker Crone as your reinforcement Mercenary when you cast Smoke Grenade to attack with Earth Breaker, amplifying your damage through the Malice Knock Down bonus and applying additional Stagger to bosses.

Build Variants

Season 6 - Season of Hatred
Grenade Rogue

This section is designed to guide your Grenade Rogue from a fresh level 60 into the very late endgame using the three variants Starter, Ancestral and Mythic. At the final step, you should be fully decked out with a great all-rounder build.

Starter
Ancestral
Mythic
Pit Pushing
Speedfarming

If you are fresh in Torment 1 coming from a leveling guide, this is where you begin. Since only some Aspects can be guaranteed from Dungeon unlocks for the Codex of Power, focus on acquiring the additional aspects via gambling with Murmuring Obols.

Gear & Skills

Starter Grenade Rogue Gear
Starter Grenade Rogue Skills
  • Early on in your progression, focus on Armor & Resistances to survive. Each Torment difficulty adds a 250 Armor and 25% Resistance penalty and it's recommended to keep both capped (1000 Armor, 70%+ Resistances) at all times. As you unlock higher power gear, Masterworking levels, and more Paragon points, you naturally scale your character into the higher difficulties and can start replacing some of these rolls with offensive or utility stats.
  • Umbrous is an important survivability tool for many Rogue builds. If you haven't found it, use either Mot, Enshrouding, or Dark Shroud on your bar for extra defense.
  • All 4 Stun Grenade Aspects, Opportunist's, Trickster's, Surprise, and Artful Initiative should be imprinted on your gear. Since both the flat damage and the bonus damage scale with Aspect slot, place Opportunist's on your Ranged Weapon and Trickster's on your Amulet as these are used the most.
  • Uncanny Treachery gives another source of Stealth after you cast Dash or Shadow Step if your Smoke Grenade cooldown is not reduced low enough to cast it continuously against Elites and Bosses.
  • Chance for Heartseeker Projectiles to Cast Twice reduces the number of attacks needed to fully stack the Critical Strike Chance buff and Critical Strike Damage buff from Fundamental Heartseeker. Poison Surge is taken to activate Alchemical Advantage.
  • Xol - Zec is used to reduce your Death Trap cooldown since this build does not spend Energy.

The goal here is to progress through the Torment difficulties as you unlock Ancestrals, Paragon points, all Legendary Aspects, Temper mods and the most important Uniques to pilot this build. Some Legendary Aspects are used temporarily to fill slots that may be replaced with more Unique items later on.

Gear & Skills

Ancestral Flurry Rogue Gear
Ancestral Flurry Rogue Skills
  • As you upgrade your gear to Ancestrals with more Masterworking levels and reach higher Paragon, you can focus more and more on replacing Armor & Resistance rolls with better stats, but ensure to stay capped at 1000 Armor and 70%+ Resistances for your current difficulty.
  • No additional Uniques are added into the build at this step, however the Masterworking priority changes from the Starter variant. You should be able to achieve 100% Stun Grenade Size.

This is the final version of the build's progression, including all regular Unique items, Mythic Uniques, Legendary Aspects, Temper mods and Masterworking, leaving you with a great all-rounder build for all content in the game. Additional variants use this as a baseline to optimize around certain activities.

Gear & Skills

Mythic Grenade Rogue Gear
Mythic Grenade Rogue Skills
  • Harlequin Crest grants you a significant amount of Cooldown Reduction to bring your Death Trap cooldown below 10 seconds for constant uptime of No Witnesses and Preparation Damage Reduction. This allows you to alter the Rune setup in your Helmet to the Best in Slot setup shown above, Xol and Ohm.
  • Tyrael's Might makes it much easier to hit your Armor and Resistance caps, even in high Torment difficulties. This allows you to min/max the setup further for example by removing such Paragon nodes and putting them into more damage.
  • Umbrous is removed from the build at this time as Tyrael's Might's overall Damage Reduction is strong enough to keep you alive. The Grenade Rogue does not use Damage per Dark Shroud Tempers so your offense is not tied to maintaining them.

This setup optimizes the build to push the highest possible Tiers in The Pit after you have finished the Mythic variant and reached a plateau in your progression.

Gear & Skills

Pit Push Grenade Rogue Gear

There are no changes from the Mythic setup for Pit Pushing.

This Speedfarming variant optimizes the build for easy activities like Helltides, Whispers, Nightmare Dungeons and lower Pit Tiers after you have finished the Mythic variant and reached a plateau in your progression.
