Hero Talents

Patch 11.0.2 - The War Within
Marksmanship Hunter
  • Your two new Hero Talent trees are Dark Ranger and Sentinel.
  • Sentinel is always better in Mythic+ with current tuning which means we largely ignore Dark Ranger in this guide.
Sentinel
Dark Ranger
  • The Sentinel hero talent tree mostly provides passive benefits and does not introduce an additional button to your rotation.
  • Mainly revolves around Sentinel applying up to 10 stacks to your target through different means within the hero talent tree which have a chance to activate, removing the stacks and dealing damage to the target.
  • The talent Symphonic Arsenal gives this talent tree significant damage increase in stacked multi-target situations with each Multi-Shot you use.
  • The capstone talent, Lunar Storm, makes it important for you to time a Rapid Fire whenever Lunar Storm is off cooldown to proc this ability on your target and increasing your damage you do to it and enemies around it.
  • Sentinel grants you Don't Look Back, which is useful if a dungeon has a lot of big hits that you could use extra absorbs for to live.
  • This hero talent tree introduces Black Arrow as a new rotational button to your gameplay with multiple benefits.
    • Gives Deathblow when used.
    • Has a 10% chance upon dealing damage to spawn in pets that attack your target.
    • Also has a 10% chance upon dealing damage to give you a charge of Aimed Shot with 50% reduced cast time.
    • The DoT from Black Arrow ticks 50% faster during Trueshot, granting you Aimed Shot charges and pet spawns more frequently during cooldowns.
  • Dark Ranger applies Survival of the Fittest to you when you use Exhilaration through the talent Smoke Screen, making it an on demand damage reduction cooldown.
  • Using Survival of the Fittest with this talent chosen also heals you for 50% of what a normal Exhilaration would.
    • Shares choice node with Embrace the Shadows. About 25% of your damage is shadow damage as a Dark Ranger so this provides a decent chunk of healing to yourself.

When to use this Spec

Use this spec on all key levels.

Gameplay Altering Talents

Discover all talents that significantly alter your gameplay within the Spec and Class Talent trees. This section gives a concise overview of these talents and their applications but for a more detailed look check out the Rotation and Deep Dive sections below.

Spec Tree

  • Rapid Fire + Aimed Shot
    • Your core damage dealing abilities as a Marksmanship Hunter. They are buffed by a lot of other talents you pick throughout your Talent Tree.
  • Multi-Shot + Trick Shots + Volley
    • Enables your entire AoE damage dealing kit. This combo is used in all 3+ target scenarios.
  • Careful Aim + Bullseye
    • Focuses a lot of your damage dealing potential on targets above 70% health and below 20% health.
  • Lone Wolf
    • Incentivizes you to play without a Pet active.
  • Steady Focus
    • Takes an otherwise very low priority ability, Steady Shot, and gives it a lot more purpose in your rotation.
  • Deathblow
    • Enables Kill Shot usage in your rotation over the entire duration of the fight, as opposed to its usual use on targets below 20% health.
  • Wailing Arrow
    • Transforms Aimed Shot after gaining 20 stacks of Wind Arrows through Legacy of the Windrunners, giving it additional effects.
  • Trueshot
    • You main offensive cooldown, enhanced by multiple talents after it to make it a very important part of your kit.

Class Tree

  • Padded Armor
    • Grants Survival of the Fittest two charges this and Lone Survivor make up for a majority of your Defensive capabilities.
  • Natural Mending
    • Heavily reduces the cooldown of your Exhilaration ability, allowing you to heal yourself on demand quite often.
  • Emergency Salve
    • Grants Feign Death and Aspect of the Turtle the capability to dispel you on fights that apply Poison or Disease debuffs to you. Occasionally extremely useful to help yourself and your group.

Hero Talents

  • Sideline
    • Your default pick since the alternative, Catch Out, has a chance to cause issues with the random roots.
Sentinel Marksmanship Hunter Mythic+ Variations

There are a couple of different talent swaps you can make depending on situation, dungeon or your preferred playstyle. The talents you swap between are Steady Focus, Tactical Reload and Light Ammo. You always play two out of these three talents.

  • Remove Steady Focus and play the other two talents if you don't like playing this talent or if you're playing very low keys.
  • Remove Light Ammo and play the other two if your groups aren't pulling enough mobs in each pull to make this talent worth it.
  • If neither of these are the case, play the default Mythic+ build.

Rotation

Tier Set

  • 2-Set: Arcane Shot and Multi-Shot damage increased by 20%.
  • 4-Set: Consuming Precise Shots increases the damage of your next Aimed Shot by 10%, stacking up to 2 times.

Single-Target

Opener

  • Your goal in the opener is simply to use as many Rapid Fires and Aimed Shots as possible, while filling in with Arcane Shot if both are on cooldown.

  • Always apply Hunter's Mark on the boss before combat.
  • Always be on the lookout for cooldown resets on Rapid Fires and Aimed Shots during your cooldowns to quickly change your priority for increased damage.
  • When using Treacherous Transmitter it has a "puzzle" you need to solve to gain the effect, use it 10~ seconds before you use your Trueshot and identify and delay solving the puzzle until then.
    This puts the trinket on cooldown earlier and allows for differently timed uses later on to line up with Trueshot again.
    • If you use the recommended trinket Skardyn's Grace or any other normal on use trinket, use them with your Trueshot.
  • Use Tempered Potion and racials like Blood Fury or Berserking right as you use your Trueshot.

Priority List

This is a general priority you aim to maintain throughout the fight.

  1. If Trueshot is NOT active, proc Steady Focus by using two Steady Shots in a row.
  2. Use Explosive Shot on cooldown.
  3. Use Salvo on cooldown.
  4. Place Volley on your targets to activate Trick Shots.
  5. Cast Rapid Fire on cooldown.
  6. Cast Aimed Shot if you're at or close to having 2 charges.
  7. Use Kill Shot if your target is under 20% health.
  8. Use Arcane Shot.
  9. Cast the rest of your Aimed Shot.
  10. Cast Steady Shot if you're too low on Focus and everything above is on cooldown.
    Take these moments to refresh Steady Focus by casting two in a row.

AoE

Opener

  • Your goal in the AoE opener is to use as many Rapid Fires and Aimed Shots with Trick Shots active as possible.

  • Always apply Hunter's Mark on the highest health mob before combat.
  • At the start of the opener you have Volley activating Trick Shots for you, but once it runs out you need to start using Multi-Shot in between each Rapid Fires and Aimed Shots you cast to make sure they cleave their damage.
  • When using Treacherous Transmitter it has a "puzzle" you need to solve to gain the effect, use it 10~ seconds before you use your Trueshot and identify and delay solving the puzzle until then.
    This puts the trinket on cooldown earlier and allows for differently timed uses later on to line up with Trueshot again.

The Importance of Trick Shots on AoE

  • It is crucial for you to ALWAYS have the Trick Shots buff active before you use Rapid Fire or Aimed Shot in AoE scenarios no matter what.
  • Remember that using either of them always consumes your current Trick Shots buff, except when you have Volley running which constantly applies Trick Shots while active.
  • Not doing this in all AoE cases results in a significant loss of overall damage.

Maximizing your Trueshot uses

  • Trueshot has a baseline cooldown of 2 minutes, but with the talent Calling the Shots you reduce it to about 1:30~ depending on how much Focus you spend, your uptime and your Haste.
    • Always try to use it again as soon as possible after it comes up, since you lose out on cooldown reduction for your next Trueshot if you don't, decreasing the number of uses you get over the duration of the dungeon.
    • However, you don't want to use your Trueshot in a way that leaves it active while you're in between pulls and not doing damage to anything. If a pull is close to dying when Trueshot comes off cooldown you should still hold it for the next pull instead.

Potentially good Talent Swaps you can make

There are a few talents in the default build that are situationally not very useful that you need to keep in mind.

  • Swapping away from talents like Emergency Salve if there is no Poison or Disease dispel in the dungeon or Camouflage if you don't find stealth useful for the current dungeon.
    • Good replacements if you decide to do this are Kodo Tranquilizer or Devilsaur Tranquilizer if you need more Magic or Enrage dispels.
    • Bursting Shot if you find yourself in dire need of more stops or another knockback.
    • Moment of Opportunity to get a burst of movement speed increase when a Trap that you placed is triggered.
    • Ghillie Suit can be useful on certain trash, giving you an extra defensive cooldown by using Feign Death + Camouflage in quick succession.
    • Binding Shackles if you don't find any use for either of the aforementioned talents.
    • You can always swap from Implosive Trap to High Explosive Trap if you ever need to push the mobs away rather than keeping them in place.

Understanding Mechanics

Rotational min-maxing is just one aspect of mastering a specialization, but there are numerous other key mechanics that influence your performance. Use the following guides to improve them.

Boss Tips

Avanoxx

  • Use defensives on Alerting Shrill.
  • Avoid kiting Starved Crawlers into the boss else the boss receives Insatiable.
    • Use Tar Trap and Binding Shot to keep them slowed and more stacked.
    • AoE them down as soon as possible, ignoring the boss while they're up.
  • Try to move together as a team to bait Gossamer Onslaught webs on the ground in the same place, leaving you more space to control the adds.

Anub'zekt

  • Watch where your tank is facing the boss to avoid Impale, especially during Eye of the Swarm.
  • Kill Bloodstained Webmages fast and interrupt Silken Restraints.
  • Use a defensive on Infestation and avoid all Ceaseless Swarm in the room.

Ki'katal the Harvester

  • Play spread from the group on this boss, and whenever Cultivated Poisons is cast you can Feign Death to dispel yourself.
  • Help with hitting any Bloodworkers if necessary to spawn Grasping Blood.
  • When you're affected by Grasping Blood you can disengage to break free from the root after Cosmic Singularity finished its cast.
    • You can also use any of your CCs on the adds on other players to break them free from their roots.

Trash Tips

  • Important abilities to interrupt in this dungeon are:
    • Resonant Barrage from Trilling Attendant.
    • Horrifying Shrill from Ixin.
    • Revolting Volley from Bloodstained Webmage.
    • Venom Volley from Blood Overseer.
  • Pay extra attention to these casts:
    • Alarm Shrill from Sentry Stagshell
      • A really long cast that needs to get disrupted.
    • Massive Slam from Nerubian Hauler and Hulking Bloodguard
      • A short stun that ramps in damage done per cast.
  • Use a defensive for Call of the Brood while fighting Nakt.

Pre Dungeon Start

  • Use Tempered Potion just before the key is activated to increase your damage on the first pull.

Boss Tips

Orator Krix'vizk

  • Chains of Oppression keeps you from playing in ranged on this boss.
  • When you have Shadows of Doubt on you, try to stay on the edge of the circle to make it easier for everyone to dodge the orbs.
  • Use your defensives during Vociferous Indoctrination and be ready to move out of the damage zone that spawns under the boss.
  • Dodge Terrorize whenever it is cast.

Fangs of the Queen

  • Watch out for Knife Throw. Use a defensive if you're targeted by this ability.
  • Spread from other teammates whenever Vx casts Ice Sickles, and Disengage after the damage debuff is applied to you to remove it.
  • Whenever Vx uses Rime Dagger on the tank, walk in to the circle around your tank to help remove stacks of the debuff.
  • Multiple Echoing Shade spawn throughout the fight that mimic Nx's Shade Slash frontal and Duskbringer circle, so keep an eye out for where they're spawned.

The Coaglamation

  • Use a defensive for each Dark Pulse. This happens at 100 boss energy.
  • Whenever the boss casts Viscous Darkness, position yourself so you don't get knocked into any pools on the ground and soak any orbs that are moving towards the boss.

Izo, the Grand Splicer

  • At the start of the fight Izo spawns orbs. Throughout the fight these orbs launch at a player in the group, make sure you dodge them and don't stand in the line they're travelling.
  • Mainly use your defensives for Splice since it's the highest damage event during this fight and only use leftover defensives for the Tremor Slam.
  • Kill off the Ravenous Scarabs as they spawn and use Binding Shot and Tar Trap to help control them.
  • For the Umbral Weave you use Disengage to free yourself from the root. After that, help kill any other webs remaining to free other players.
  • Avoid the circle around the tank when the boss casts Process of Elimination.

Trash Tips

  • Important abilities to interrupt in this dungeon are:
    • Web Bolt from Sureki Silkbinder.
    • Grimweave Blast from Covert Webmancer.
    • Mending Web from Covert Webmancer.
    • Twist Thoughts from Herald of Anurek.
    • Void Wave from Sureki Unnaturaler.
  • While fighting Xeph'itik, use a defensive if targeted by Perfume Toss.
  • Use a defensive when affected by Void Rush while fighting Eye of the Queen.
  • If the Royal Venomshell applies Venomous Spray to you, use Feign Death to dispel it with Emergency Salve.
  • When fighting the Elder Shadeweaver make sure you damage her absorb shield quickly to allow interrupting again.
    • When she casts Umbral Weave, use Disengage to break free and kill any remaining webs to help other players.
  • When the Hulking Warshell casts Tremor Slam, sse a defensive right before this cast finishes.
    • Kill off the Ravenous Scarabs quickly when they spawn. You can place a Binding Shot and Tar Trap to control them better.

Boss Tips

E.D.N.A.

  • Always stack up before Volatile Spikes to spawn them close together to ensure you can break them all with one Refracting Beam.
    • Use a defensive whenever you break the Volatile Spikes.
  • Make sure you don't overlap your Refracting Beam with someone elses.
  • Also keep a defensive for each Earth Shatterer.

Skarmorak

  • Always focus down one Crystal Shard at a time when they are up, and wait for Crystalline Eruption to run out before you kill the next one.
  • Use your defensive before Unstable Crash happens or while you have multiple stacks of Unstable Energy from picking up the orbs.

Master Machinists Brokk and Dorlita

  • Make sure you always keep your interrupt for Molten Metal whenever Speaker Brokk casts it while being far away from the group because of Scrap Song.
  • Stay clear of the middle to avoid Scrap Cube from hitting you.
  • Quickly identify which Exhaust Vent is safe whenever it is cast and stay there until it ends.
  • Always keep an eye out for when Speaker Dorlita casts Lava Cannon to dodge it.
  • Use your defensive during Exhaust Vents and Blazing Crescendo.
  • Make sure you kill both bosses at the same time to avoid Silenced Speaker from being up for too long.

Void Speaker Eirich

  • Whenever you get Void Corruption, quickly move to a portal to remove the debuff before it starts dealing too much damage.
  • Place Entropic Reckoning well so it doesn't disrupt your or anyone else's gameplay and quickly move out of the Entropy pool afterwards.
  • Use a defensive on each Entropic Reckoning.

Trash Tips

  • Focus down Earth Burst Totem from Cursedforge Stoneshaper. They have a low amount of health but are not affected by AoE abilities.
  • Important abilities to interrupt in this dungeon are:
    • Howling Fear from Ghastly Voidsoul.
    • Censoring Gear from Turned Speaker.
    • Piercing Wail from Void Bound Howler.
    • Restoring Metals from Forgebound Mender and Cursedforge Mender.
    • Arcing Void from Cursedheart Invader.
  • You can line of sight the Ground Pound cast by Earth Infused Golems.
  • Forge Loaders cast Lava Cannon towards a player that needs to be dodged.
  • Use a defensive whenever you fight Void Bound Despoilers when they cast the ability Void Outburst.
  • When you fight a Rock Smasher mob, use a defensive for each Smash Rock cast.

Pre Dungeon Start

  • Use Tempered Potion just before the key is activated to increase your damage on the first pull.

Boss Tips

Speaker Shadowcrown

  • Pre-position away from the boss before Collapsing Night is cast to spawn the void zone in a good place. Quickly move out of the zone that spawns by using Disengage to reduce damage.
    • Use a defensive every time this is cast on you.
  • Position in a good place for each Obsidian Beam to minimize movement while dodging the beams.
  • Interrupt Shadow Bolts whenever you can.

Anub'ikkaj

  • Position well to aim Dark Orb down an open path, dodge the orb when it shoots out and use a defensive when it is about to explode.
  • Use a defensive for Shadowy Decay.
  • Stay away from the tank to avoid Terrifying Slam.
  • When the boss casts Animate Shadows it spawns Adds, use Misdirect on your tank and AoE them down quickly.
    • Place Implosive Trap on them to stop their casts.

Rasha'nan

  • Make sure you pick up and throw any Arathi Bombs on the boss.
  • When you get Rolling Acid, look at which direction it is going and move out towards that same direction.
  • Be aware of Erosive Spray. It applies Lingering Erosion which is dangerous when combined with other damage events.
  • During Phase 2 the boss starts using Spinneret's Strands. If this is on you, move out of the group, use a defensive and quickly move out of the web that spawns when it runs out.

Trash Tips

  • Important abilities to interrupt in this dungeon are:
    • Night Bolt from Nightfall Shadowmage.
    • Ensnaring Shadows from Nightfall Shadowmage.
    • Tormenting Beam from Nightfall Darkcaster.
    • Umbral Barrier from Nightfall Darkcaster.
  • When fighting the miniboss Ixkreten the Unbreakable, stay away from where the tank is positioned to not get hit by Terrifying Slam.
  • The second miniboss Deathscreamer Iken'tak casts Dark Orb towards a random player. If this is aimed at you, make sure it's aimed down a long open path to not explode too close to the group, and dodge the orb when it gets shot out.
    • Always use a defensive when Dark Orb is about to explode.
  • On the third miniboss, Ascendant Vis'coxria, use a defensive whenever it casts Shadowy Decay.
  • Right before the last boss you play a miniboss called Nightfall Dark Architect. As this mob dies the boss spawns right after, so make sure you don't body pull the boss and don't have any abilities placed on the ground like traps and Volley.

Pre Dungeon Start

  • Use Tempered Potion just before the key is activated to increase your damage on the first pull.

Boss Tips

Ingra Maloch

  • Interrupt Spirit Bolt every time a non-tank player is targeted.
  • Try to line up your cooldowns with Droman Oulfarran's Droman's Wrath to increase your cooldown's damage significantly. This happens when Droman Oulfarran reaches 20% health.
  • If you have Aspect of the Turtle ready, use it when the boss casts Repulsive Visage.
  • If Ingra Maloch is at low health after a damage increase phase it is more worth it to kill him off rather than pushing for another damage phase.

Mistcaller

  • Use Freezing Trap or Binding Shot on the Illusionary Vulpins to prevent them from reaching their target.
    • If your group is not crowd-controlling the Illusionary Vulpins, kill them off quickly.
  • Use your defensives during the Guessing Game.

Tred'ova

  • When the boss casts Acid Expulsion, don't move too much since all upcoming casts remember your movement from the past ones, sending out extra projectiles to dodge.
  • Use Binding Shot and Tar Trap to control the Gormling Larvas.
  • Stay away from the tank when the boss casts Mind Link to break your tether instantly.

Trash Tips

  • Important abilities to interrupt in this dungeon are:
    • Spirit Bolt from Drust Harvester.
    • Harvest Essence from Drust Harvester.
    • Nourish the Forest from Mistveil Tender.
    • Bramblethorn Coat from Mistveil Shaper.
    • Stimulate Regeneration from Spinemaw Staghorn.
    • Stimulate Resistance from Spinemaw Staghorn.
  • When the Tirnenn Villager casts Overgrowth on you, use Feign Death before it goes through.
  • In the Maze area after the first boss it is usually the healer who solves the puzzle while you kill the trash, but you can help out by standing near one of the symbols for the healer - or solve it yourself if you feel confident and no one else is doing it!
  • At certain points in the Maze area you can summon a pet and send it through the walls to pull more mobs to you.
    • Communicate with your group before you do this since it is difficult to handle if they're not prepared.

Pre Dungeon Start

  • Use Tempered Potion just before the key is activated to increase your damage on the first pull.

Boss Tips

Blightbone

  • Use a defensive if you're targeted by Heaving Retch and stand away from your teammates, ideally towards already placed Fetid Gas on the ground.
    • You can also dispel the Disease effect after you get hit by using Feign Death.
  • Always use Tar Trap and Binding Shot when Carrion Worms spawn, don't let them hit you and cleave them down.

Amarth, The Harvester

  • Use a Freezing Trap on either the Reanimated Crossbowman or Reanimated Mage when the boss spawns adds.
  • If any adds are still alive during Final Harvest, use Intimidation to crowd-control them. With them crowd-controlled, the boss doesn't cast Tortured Echoes even though an add is alive.
    • Stay away from any corpses of adds that have died when the Final Harvest cast finishes.
  • Help interrupt Necrotic Bolts from the boss or Frostbolt Volley from Reanimated Mages.
  • You can help getting the Reanimated Crossbowman closer to the boss for easier cleave by knocking them with High Explosive Trap.

Surgeon Stitchflesh

  • Be in position near Surgeon Stitchflesh's platform throughout the fight to hook him down if you get Meat Hooks targeted on you.
    • When Surgeon Stitchflesh is about to use Escape, make sure you're already in position to hook him down since they often overlap in timing.
  • Make sure you dodge Embalming Ichor.
  • Use Feign Death if you get targeted by Morbid Fixation to interrupt it.
    • This ability can also be stopped by aiming Meat Hooks at the Stitchflesh's Creation.

Nalthor the Rimebinder

  • Stay away from the group at all times and use Disengage to remove Frozen Binds when it's cast on you.
  • If you have a Warlock or Evoker in your group, ask them to set up a Demonic Gateway or use Rescue on you right before you get hit by the Dark Exile projectile.
    • Do note that you still die after 50 seconds after doing this. It's a gain if the boss has low health or the targeted player could struggle in the extra phase.
    • Don't do it if you have 0 combat resurrections ready!
  • If you do get sent down by Dark Exile, make sure you have Aspect of the Cheetah ready to complete the gauntlet quickly.

  • Important abilities to interrupt in this dungeon are:
    • Drain Fluids from Corpse Harvester and Corpse Collector.
    • Necrotic Bolt from Zolramus Sorceror & Zolarmus Necromancer.
    • Rasping Scream from Skeletal Marauder.
    • Frostbolt Volley from Reanimted Mage.
    • Goresplatter from Corpse Collector.
    • Repair Flesh from Flesh Crafter.
  • When fighting against a Zolramus Necromancer, make sure you focus single-target on that mob instead of cleaving since all the summoned skeletal mobs die either way when he does. No padding allowed!
  • When you play against the two Separation Assistants, make sure to be in position to aim the Throw Cleaver at the mob that is not casting on you.
    • If you get Morbid Fixation, use Feign Death.
  • The last trash mob in the Necropolis, Rotspew, has a damage dealing aura around him that persists even after he dies. Make sure your group doesn't kill him where you want to fight Surgeon Stitchflesh.

Pre Dungeon Start

  • Use Tempered Potion just before the key is activated to increase your damage on the first pull.

Boss Tips

Chopper Redhook

  • Try to line up your cooldowns with the boss walking over Bombs which applies Heavy Ordnance to the boss.
  • Use your movement abilities to help you kite the boss into Bombs if you're fixated.
  • Using Freezing Trap on a newly spawned mob, especially later in the fight, might allow you to ignore it completely. Otherwise always swap to the Irontide Powdershot mobs as they spawn.

Dread Captain Lockwood

  • Focus down the Ashvane Cannoneer during the add phase to quickly use Unstable Ordnance to get the boss down from the ship.
  • During Mass Bombardment, you don't need to dodge the circles instantly as they spawn since they have a few seconds until they explode. Use this to minimize space used and maximize uptime doing damage.
  • Don't stand in front of the boss to avoid Clear the Deck.
  • Use defensives for Shoot and Fiery Ricochet.
  • If your group is lacking slows, placing Tar Trap under the boss helps keep her in place. You can also Wing Clip if absolutely necessary but should be avoided at almost any cost, make someone else do it!

Hadal Darkfathom

  • If you find yourself struggling with positioning for a Tidal Surge combo you can use Aspect of the Turtle to walk through that set of waves.
  • Overall positioning is important here. Make sure to NOT stand near the middle statue except when Tidal Surge is about to come, as to not spawn any Pools from Break Water around that area.

Viq'Goth

  • Focus the Demolishing Terror add first in each phase.
  • You're a decent class for staying and taking care of shooting the Cannon in each phase so consider doing this if your healer or someone else isn't.

Trash Tips

  • Important abilities to interrupt in this dungeon are:
    • Brackish Bolt from Irontide Waveshaper.
    • Watertight Shell from Irontide Waveshaper.
    • Water Bolt from Bilge Rat Tempest.
    • Choking Waters from Bilge Rat Tempest.
    • Bolstering Shout from Ashvane Commander.
    • Stinky Vomit from Bilge Rat Pillager.

Pre Dungeon Start

  • If you are not doing an Invis skip at the start, use Tempered Potion just before the key is activated to increase your damage on the first pull..

Boss Tips

General Umbriss

  • Try to stand around the middle of the room to help you dodge Shadowflame Breaths and save Disengage and Aspect of the Cheetah for this.
  • Use a defensive before each Commanding Roar.
  • Spread on the sides of the room with Rock Spike. When the debuff expires you get knocked in the direction you are facing.

Forgemaster Throngus

  • Whenever the boss uses Forge Weapon he also causes Blistering Heat, use a defensive for each time this happens.
  • Bait Fiery Cleave towards a close wall to increase space.
  • Place Molten Sparks on the sides.

Drahga Shadowburner

  • Whenever the boss casts Invocation of Shadowflame, swap your focus to the Invoked Shadowflame and kill it as soon as possible and use any CC on it if necessary. These adds are not allowed to reach the fixated player.
  • Be careful of the knockback from Twilight Buffet and dodge the Tornados that spawn after.
  • Watch where the tank aims the frontal Devouring Flame.
  • Use a defensive for each Twilight Buffet hit.

Erudax, the Duke of Below

  • Use defensives during Abyssal Corruption and Void Surge.
  • Waiting with killing off any of the Mutated Hatchlings adds until just after Void Surge is cast.
  • When the boss casts Shadow Gale, get to the safe zone and spread out within it for Abyssal Corruption as to not overlap with other players.
    • If you have Aspect of the Turtle available, use it before the Abyssal Corruption cast goes through to most likely avoid it entirely.
  • Dodge Void Tendrils landing on the ground after the boss casts Void Surge.

Trash Tips

  • Important abilities to interrupt in this dungeon are:
    • Earth Bolt from Twilight Earthcaller.
    • Mass Tremor from Twilight Earthcaller.
    • Shadowflame Bolt from Twilight Beguiler.
    • Sear Mind from Twilight Beguiler.
  • You can line of sight Umbral Wind cast by the Twilight Destroyer.
  • Use a defensive when the Molten Giants cast Molten Wake.
  • Whenever a Twilight Lavabender finishes the cast Ascension, use a defensive a few seconds after to negate some of the damage from Scorching Heat.
  • If a cast of Enveloping Shadowflame goes through on you, use Exhilaration to help heal it off.
  • Near the end of the dungeon you face Faceless Corruptors that cast Corrupt. If this goes on you, use Feign Death to stop its cast if available, or a defensive if not.

Pre Dungeon Start

  • Use Tempered Potion just before the key is activated to increase your damage on the first pull.

The Affix system got revamped going into The War Within Season 1 retiring most Affixes as well as introducing new kiss-curse ones while also changing on which key level these appear.

    • Challenger's Peril
  • +10 Affixes -- Alternates between each other on a weekly basis, is always the opposite of the +4 Affix
    • Tyrannical
    • Fortified
  • +12 Affix
    • Xal'atath's Guile -- Replaces the +2 Affix

Below you get some useful tips for handling different Mythic+ Affixes as a Marksmanship Hunter.

  • Xal'atath's Bargain: Ascendant
    • Your strongest tools to deal with these spawns are Implosive Trap and Tranquilizing Shot with Kodo Tranquilizer talented, so make sure you swap to that talent for Ascendant weeks.
  • Xal'atath's Bargain: Voidbound
    • The talent Bullseye get extra value on Voidbound weeks since the spawn starts at low hp.
    • Make sure you swap to it right away, ideally with a Rapid Fire if ready, to gain a lot of Crit from this affix.
  • Xal'atath's Bargain: Oblivion
    • During Oblivion weeks, make sure you play closer to melee in general to intercept these orbs. Both Mastery and Leech are very helpful stats for you so prioritize this over fully minmaxing your damage when they spawn.
  • Xal'atath's Bargain: Devour
    • Your best tool to deal with Devour weeks is Emergency Salve which becomes mandatory in every dungeon. Simply use Feign Death every time this affix is activated to deal with your own debuff instantly.

Marksmanship Hunter Stat Priorities in Mythic+

Higher Item level items are better in most scenarios. For an accurate representation of what item to equip you should use Simcraft! A static "Stat Priority" is just a starting point and can easily shift depending on your individual gear.

Tertiary

  • Avoidance - Great stat to reduce the damage intake of "Area of Effect" abilities.
  • Leech - Provides additional healing through dealing damage. Great stat especially in AoE scenarios.
  • Speed - Way less useful for you since Marksmanship Hunter already has great mobility, but it can help you deal with certain mechanics on bosses, increase your DPS slightly during heavier movement or just help you move through the dungeon quicker.

Active Trinket alternatives

  • Skardyn's Grace
    • Strong farmable 2 minute on use, doesn't line up as well with Trueshot but is worked around because of how strong it is for Mythic+.
  • Treacherous Transmitter
    • On use trinket that lines up best with your Trueshot cooldown.
    • Comes with a drawback of first having to solve one of three "puzzles" within 15 seconds of using it to gain the effect of the trinket.
      • Catch a purple orb.
      • Jump 3 times.
      • Stand in a portal on the ground for 2~ seconds.
  • Mad Queen's Mandate
    • Strong on use that deals a heavy amount of damage to your target over 2 seconds.
    • Especially useful when you need to kill a newly spawned target quickly.

Passive Trinket alternatives

  • Dead-Eye Spyglass
    • Good passive trinket.
  • Empowering Crystal of Anub'ikkaj
    • Very strong alternative passive trinket in all situations and easier to use than Dead-Eye Spyglass.
  • Ovi'nax's Mercurial Egg
    • Good alternative for AoE.
  • Harvester's Edict
    • Also competitive in AoE situations.
  • Ara-Kara Sacbrood
    • Another competitive passive trinket, performing a little bit worse on AoE but better on Single-Target.

Embellishments

It's recommended to hold your Spark of Omens craft and wait for further tuning.

  • 2x Dawnthread Lining
    • Best choice overall unless since you usually stay over 80% health over the majority of a Mythic+ dungeon.
    • Craft this on Wrist and Boots, but other slots can be considered depending on your available gear.

Remaining Sparks

  • Crafted items are 636 item level and regular items are 639 on max item level therefore it's not beneficial to equip crafted items outside of your 2x embellishments unless you don't have access to other high item level gear on that slot.

Marksmanship Hunter

For min-maxing a Marksmanship Hunter in Mythic+, different racial traits can provide a tremendous benefit to your character. If this is not your top goal, picking a race that fits your style works just as well.

Alliance

  • Stoneform -- Dwarf
    • Able to dispel a lot of debuffs from you on demand, while also providing you with a 10% physical damage reduction upon use.
  • Might of the Mountain -- Dwarf
    • Passively increasing your Critical Damage and Healing done by 2%.
  • Will to Survive -- Human
    • Can break you out of certain CC, even in PvE scenarios.
  • The Human Spirit -- Human
    • You gain 2% more secondary stats from all sources.
  • Spatial Rift -- Void Elf
    • Throws out a shadowy projectile in front of you, if you press this button again after the projectile is thrown out, you teleport to its current location. Occasionally extremely helpful for movement.
  • Entropic Embrace -- Void Elf
    • Occasionally empowering you to deal 5% more damage with all your spells for 12 seconds.

Horde

  • War Stomp -- Tauren
    • Stuns 5 enemies close to you for 2 seconds.
  • Endurance -- Tauren
    • Increases your maximum health.
  • Brawn -- Tauren
    • Passively increasing your Critical Damage and Healing done by 2%.
  • Berserking -- Troll
    • Increases your Haste by 10% for 12 seconds. Useful if you want a damage racial that provides more burst damage.
  • Rocket Jump -- Goblin
    • About the same as Disengage, except it launches you forward instead of backwards. Can be very useful on certain encounters with heavy movement.
  • Time is Money -- Goblin
    • Increases your Haste by 1%.
  • Gnome and Night Elf, with the active abilities Escape Artist for Gnome to break roots and Shadowmeld for Night Elf, have proven useful in the past.
    • However, you already have access to the same capabilities as Marksmanship Hunter with Disengage breaking roots on use and Feign Death generally working on the same things as Shadowmeld does, so they are much less useful for you.

Recommendation

For you as a Marksmanship Hunter, the overall most useful races for you to play would be Dwarf for Alliance and Tauren for Horde, with the former winning out overall since Stoneform has had much more usefulness in Mythic+ compared to most other racial active abilities that don't effect your damage.
