Visions of Enmity Explained

Season 29

Last Updated:April 14, 2024|Change Log

Season 29 brought us the Visions of Enmity, a Seasonal Theme that introduced a brand new activity to the game like Season 26 with Echoing Nightmares!

However, Season 30 added the Visions of Enmity as a permanent feature to the game in seasonal play! Although its rewards have been slightly adjusted in consequence.

A Vision of Enmity Portal

General Overview

The nefarious machinations of the Burning Hells have permeated every corner of Sanctuary, warping reality in the process. This disturbance has given way to Visions of Enmity, pocket dimensions that are accessed by stepping through Diabolical Fissures.

Should your smiting of hellspawn trigger a Fissure, press onward and into a Vision of Enmity — what horrors await on the other side are unknown, but these instances are rich in rewards. The Visions are quite unstable and have the potential to produce additional Fissures after enemies are dispatched inside — keep an eye out for these opportunities to maximize your chance of earning useful gear.

Season 29 introduces the Visions of Enmity, an optional and rewarding mini dungeon system where players fight monsters in quick succession of portals, as a kind of quicker Greater Rifts. Here are a few key points about this game mode:

  • You can open Visions of Enmity by killing any non-elite monster in the open world.
  • You can get Visions of Enmity as soon as Level 1.
  • You can open several Visions of Enmity in the same game, but only one can be up at a time, you have to clear it and let it close to get another one.
  • Each Vision of Enmity Level has a randomly chosen monster type.
  • Monsters from the Visions of Enmity drop gold, items and health globes just like in the open world, meaning you can perfectly take advantage of mechanics such as Boon of the Hoarder & Goldwrap.

A Diabolical Chest
  • Every time you kill a monster in a Vision of Enmity, there is a chance of spawning a portal to the next level. You can get only 5 levels or get as far as 10 levels for instance. On average, you get about 9 floors per Vision.
  • The monster difficulty scales as players progress throughout the levels. A build able to tackle Greater Rift Level 90 should have no issue whatsoever.
  • You can die and resurrect (assuming you're not playing Hardcore!) at any time given and still complete the Vision of Enmity.
  • There are no Pylon or Shrine spawns in the Visions of Enmity.
  • Once you clear the final level of the Vision of Enmity, a Diabolical Chest spawns. This chest contains a dozen items as well as up to 60 Bounty Materials from each Act.
  • After clearing a Vision, you trigger a 30 second timer before the Vision closes. You get teleported out in town if you're still in when the cooldown is finished.

In order to spice up Visions of Enmity, there are special enemies as well as some random events that can occur:

  • There are levels with only Champion Packs, where every Champion drops Death's Breath.
  • You can find levels with 3 Rift Guardians to fight. They each drop a few Greater Rift Keystones.
  • On some levels, you'll find monsters that drop a good amount of White and Blue Items, which is very good to get crafting materials.
  • Treasure Goblins and even Goblin Packs (albeit very rare) can also spawn.
  • Monsters in Diabolical Fissures can have 2 new exclusive affixes that can spawn on Elites but also sometimes on normal monsters:
    • Enervating: Creates an area of effect around the monster that reduces the player’s Movement Speed by 65% and Cooldown Reduction by 50% if the player is in the vicinity of the monster.
    • Necrotic: The player's healing is reduced by 65%. Monsters have a damage-over-time effect that deals 180% of the player’s max health over 30 seconds. This effect is removed if the player is healed above 95%.

Where to farm Visions ?
You get a Vision of Enmity portal approximately every 300 non-elite monster kills, or about 0.33% chance. This means you need to focus zones with high monster density, such as Fields of Misery or Halls of Agony Level 2 & 3 in Act I if your goal is to farm them.

Conclusion

The game brings us a whole new endgame farming activity with Visions of Enmity. This new farming activity, indirectly grants players power creep by giving them fairly easy access to Bounty Materials for gear crafting. Visions of Enmity surely is a welcome addition to the seasonal core game in its final state, just like Season 26 Echoing Nightmares was for the core game some time ago!
