Last Updated:October 13, 2024|Change Log

Welcome to the Wand / Staff PvP Healer guide, the most universal healer build in Throne & Liberty! Wand / Staff is most commonly played as a healer, but can also be built as a Hybrid DPS or Buff CC Bot.

With certain equipment such as the Talus's Resonance Staff and Lequirus's Grip, as well as abilities like Echoic Barrier, Victorious Energy, Frost Smokescreen, and Blessed Barrier, you can survive situations where you're outnumbered or up against a strong opponent.

Wand / Staff has unique abilities such as Icebound Tomb, Ice Spear, and Forbidden Sanctuary, and Salvation Chain that makes you a healer who can reliably protect and peel for teammates.

Active Skills

Block Skills

  • When Perfect Blocking Fury attacks, use Chaotic Shield to gain access to an additional heal that also restores stamina.

Damage Skills

  • Use Infernal Meteor to apply a 60% Healing Debuff on all enemies hit.
  • Use Chain Thunder off cooldown to apply additional pressure to all enemies hit.

Healing Skills

  • Don't be afraid to use Fountain of Life to keep yourself alive. In many instances, it is the best play to keep yourself alive if you expect you're about to be Proned or Knocked Down.
  • Swift Healing is your only single-target healing ability that is used most often since it has the lowest cooldown. This ability can heal players outside of your party.
  • Use Clay's Salvation when multiple party members require a heal. The Range ▲ Specialization helps you reach all party members in moments you are spread a part.
  • Blessed Barrier is one of your strongest abilities that increases Incoming and Outgoing Healing, while also increasing Defenses, including Endurance during the night. The Effect Duration ▲ gives you about 4 extra seconds on the buff depending on your total Buff Duration.

Utility Skills

  • Use Victorious Energy to increase your Evasion and Hit by 400 each. This buff becomes necessary at End Game to make it difficult for Ranged and Magic users to land their abilities on you. It also helps you land your CC and Damage abilities against players stacking Magic Evasion.
  • Use Inner Peace to strategically counter Greatsword and Dagger users looking to CC engage on you.
  • Cast Icebound Tomb off cooldown to create clumps for your allies to destroy while also reducing the Evasion of all enemies caught by 415.
  • Always use Cursed Nightmare into Karmic Haze to create slept clumps for your allies to wipe. Be mindful of your positioning as you complete the mass sleep combo.

Passive Skills

  • Devotion and Emptiness and Noble Revival increase your healing. Devotion and Emptiness also provides Cooldown Speed for your healing abilities during the day.
  • Keep full stacks of Selfless Soul easily with Clay's Salvation and Fountain of Life.
  • The Skill Damage Boost from Forbidden Sanctuary also increases your healing.
  • Echoic Barrier pairs perfectly with Debuff Duration and if you stack enough you can bring the Silence Debuff down to 1.5 seconds or less.

Alternatives

  • Swap Icebound Tomb or Chain Thunder for Salvation Chain if you're comfortable using the skill.
    • Salvation Chain is a strong utility skill to save allies from certain death. This ability can not be used if someone is Knocked Down or Prone. Pay attention to the state your allies are in before you try to pull them to safety.
    • If you're being focused, especially by Greatswords, add Redemptive Barrier to Salvation Chain. Use Redemptive Barrier with Inner Peace to have immune a Stun, Petrification, Bind, Silence, or Sleep, and survive burst combos and attacks.
  • Swap Chain Thunder for Frost Smokescreen if you're being focused too much by melee or your raid is weaker than your enemies.
    • Frost Smokescreen is your only mobility skill. Use this ability to create distance when enemies approach you. If you're ambushed, you can use Precious Purification Stone, then Icebound Tomb, and Frost Smokescreen as a great way to escape a CC combo and reposition to safety.

Active Skills

Block Skills

  • No changes from the previous tab.

  • Use Serial Fire Bombs to spread Weaken stacks to enemy clumps which helps you maintain full stacks of Full of Corruption.
  • Always use Chain Lightning off cooldown and especially after casting Serial Fire Bombs for increased damage.

Healing Skills

Utility Skills

  • Use Enchanting Time on yourself or party members to increase their damage output. Ideally you'd want to use this buff on the strongest AoE DPS player in your group to increase their ability to destroy enemy clumps.
  • Victorious Energy, Frost Smokescreen, and Inner Peace are used the same as the previous tab.

Passive Skills

  • No changes from the previous tab.

Alternatives

  • Replace Frost Smokescreen or Enchanting Time with Salvation Chain if you're comfortable using the skill. This ability can't be used if someone is Knocked Down or Prone. Pay attention to the state your allies are in before you try to pull them to safety.
  • Replace Judgment Lightning with Hellfire Rain to nuke enemy clumps and spread additional Weaken stacks while also Decreasing Healing Received by 60% to all enemies hit.
  • Use this skill build for PvP Dynamic Events.

Active Skills

Block Skills

Healing Skills

Utility Skills

  • Use Focused Fire Bombs and Fighting Spirit Barrier on party members to increase their damage output. Ideally, you want to use these buffs on the strongest AoE DPS player in your group to increase their burst combos.
  • Cast Icebound Tomb off cooldown to create clumps for your allies to nuke while also reducing the Evasion of all enemies caught by 415.
  • Use Ice Spear to root enemies and create clumps.
  • Use Salvation Chain to save allies from certain death. This ability can not be used if someone is Knocked Down or Prone. Pay attention to the state your allies are in before you try to pull them to safety.
  • Use High Focus with Expand Targets and Expand Targets Specializations to provide Cooldown Speed, Movement Speed, and Max Damage buffs to your entire party. If you're being focused by Ranged and Magic users, run the Victorious Energy Specialization instead and remove the other two.
  • Frost Smokescreen and Inner Peace are used the same as the previous tabs.

Passive Skills

  • Maintain stacks of Full of Corruption with your AoE Weaken: Slow applied by Ice Spear, Frost Smokescreen, and Icebound Tomb.
  • Remaining use of passives do not change from the previous tabs.

  • Always use Cursed Nightmare into Karmic Haze to create slept clumps for your allies to wipe. Be mindful of your positioning as you complete the mass sleep combo.

Passive Skills

  • In small scale you'll be focused by many Greatsword and Dagger players. Saint's Oath will help increase your odds of surviving against them.
  • Remaining use of passives do not change from the previous tabs.

Alternatives

  • Swap Karmic Haze for Icebound Tomb if enemies aren't grouped enough for AoE sleep combo. Remove Range ▲ from Swift Healing and Mana Recovery from Fountain of Life to get Icy Mire and Bind on Icebound Tomb.

  • Use Quality Marind Ore to craft Quality Active Skill Growth Book and Quality Passive Skill Growth Book.
  • Use Rare Marind Ore to craft Rare Active Skill Growth Book and Rare Passive Skill Growth Book.
  • Prioritize getting all these skills to blue first before getting them to purple. These are universal skills you always use.
  • Upgrade the following skills first from 1 to 3, then repeat from 3 to 5. Upgrade the rest of your skills as you play the game.

PvP Gameplay and Skill Rotation

Large Scale PvP
Support

Mass Sleep

  1. Cursed Nightmare
  2. Karmic Haze
  • This is a very simple combo. Make sure your location is safe before you cast and you know where to safely reposition afterward.
  • Always target a Wand / Longbow or SnS user with Cursed Nightmare, because they don't usually stack Evasions, so it's more likely your Sleep and Karmic Haze would not miss on them.
  • After you cast Cursed Nightmare on a target, you must use Karmic Haze on that same target to spread Sleep.
    • Note: The tooltip for Karmic Haze is incorrect and you can spread any DoT or Sleep to as many targets within skill's AoE radius.

Increased DPS With Burning

  1. Serial Fire Bombs
  2. Inferno Wave
  3. Chain Lightning
  4. Fireball Barrage
  5. Judgment Lightning

If you choose to have any of the skills a part of this combo on your bar, make sure to use them in this order to increase DPS. Before starting the combo, make sure to have Time for Punishment applied to the target for more DPS or Enchanting Time on yourself.

AoE Skills

  • Inferno Wave
  • Chain Lightning
  • Judgment Lightning
  • Hellfire Rain
  • You can follow up Serial Fire Bombs with Inferno Wave.

AoE Heals

  1. Clay's Salvation
  2. Fountain of Life
  • These are your AoE healing abilities commonly used in PvP. Use your AoE heals after multiple party members receive damage that requires your support. Use Swift Healing as your main heal until this happens.
  • Fountain of Life is commonly used to support yourself to survive CC combos.

Single-Target Heal

  1. Swift Healing
  • This is your main heal that has a low cooldown and can be cast up to three times with Consecutive Use.

Damage Mitigation

  1. Blessed Barrier
  2. Invincible Wall
  • These skills help your party tank strong hitting abilities. Blessed Barrier and Invincible Wall can be changed into AoE abilities with Expand Targets and Expand Targets.
  1. Redemptive Barrier
  2. Inner Peace
  • This combo allows you to tank a Greatsword DPS rotation and majority of burst attacks while being immune to Stun, Petrification, Bind, Silence, or Sleep.
  • After the player uses their initial CC and burst damage, follow-up with Icebound Tomb, Cursed Nightmare, or Frost Smokescreen to self-peel and reposition to a safer area.

Tips

  • To survive and play well as a Wand / Staff Healer build you must always be mindful of your positioning. Use Victorious Energy as soon as you see DPS moving towards you for an engage. Never be in isolated spaces within your zerg where you're more vulnerable to being ambushed.
  • Do not use standing block against Greatswords. Always use rolling block in fights against them because they have two Fury abilities that can quickly Prone you if you're using your stationary block.
  • Don't be afraid to use Blessed Barrier on yourself if you are being focused. The increased healing and Defenses from this ability increases your odds of surviving.

Stat Priorities

Use the following stat priorities when playing a Wand / Staff build in PVP:

  • Primary Stats
    • Strength, Perception, and Wisdom

You have 49 Stat Points you can freely allocate to any of the 4 primary Stats. Once you put 20 points into an individual Stat, it takes 2 points to increase the Stat by 1. Do not put more than 20 points into a Stat unless you are trying to reach a certain breakpoint.

You get bonuses for every 10 Stat Points you invest from 30 to 60. You invest our points based on acquiring these bonuses.

Strength adds minimum and maximum Weapon Damage while also increasing your Max Health, Defenses, and Health Regen. Increasing Strength is your best method of increasing your survivability. Wisdom is the third best stat for healers after Perception if you use any offensive abilities, if not, Wisdom is your second best stat. Each added point into Wisdom increases your maximum Weapon Damage and provides extra Cooldown Speed and Mana Regen.

Early Game Gear

In PvP, Hit is important to land your CC, Curses, and offensive abilities. So, with full green gear, you want 30 Perception for 100 extra Hit. You also want 30 Strength for 750 extra Max Health which improves your survivability, as well as 30 Dexterity for 100 Critical Hit which is about a 10% increased chance to Crit Heal or Damage.

Mid Game Gear

With Blue gear, your goal is to have high Max Health, Critical Chance, and a balance of your Endurances.

End Game Gear

At Purple Gear, you have options to either run a Melee Evasion build or a Ranged/Magic Evasion build. What you choose to run depends largely on your server. If you're on a heavy Melee server, then a Melee Evasion build would feel more beneficial. Servers with a higher amount of Magic users will require strong Magic Defenses and Damage Mitigation.

Gear Progression

Acquiring Gear pieces and upgrading them is incredibly expensive and time-consuming. If you enjoy both PvE and PvP content, just use these sets for PvE as well.

Note: Whether you play a Melee Evasion or Ranged and Magic Evasion build will depend entirely on the server you're on.

Wand / Staff PvP Early Game Gear

Any Melee user who knows how to gear properly approaches 1,000 Melee Hit Early Game, especially Greatsword users. To effectively combat this, you need around 1,500 Melee Evasion for a 30% chance of evading their attacks. With Staff, you easily surpass this requirement because of Victorious Energy which provides you up to 460 of all Evasions and 460 Hit for over 10 seconds with proper Buff Duration. This will help in escaping Greatswords looking to engage on you.

With Victorious Energy you achieve 1,518 Melee Evasion, 1,102 Ranged Evasion, and 1,032 Magic Hit.

Wand / Staff Mid Game PvP Build

Unless you have this gear set somewhat traited, some of your Green Gear is still better for PvP. Keep that in mind before transferring over.

  • Your goal with gearing is to have high Max Health while maintaining the required Melee and Ranged Evasion needed to effectively counter Melee and Ranged Hit.
  • With a Level 1 Victorious Energy you achieve 2,290 Melee Evasion, 1,370 Ranged Evasion, and 1,140 Hit.
  • You have a Cooldown Speed of 12.5% on your Wand healing and support abilities thanks to your Wand Mastery skills.

Guardians

Guardians are special transformations that add offensive or defensive buffs or attacks to your character for 30 seconds. These are the recommended Guardians for this class in both PvE and PvP situations.

  • Lady Knight Kamarshea is the common healer Guardian. It helps as an emergency button to survive situations where you are overwhelmed by several players or caught in a CC chain.

Summary

  • The Wand / Staff Healer in PvP is the most versatile healer build. You can play it as full support, hybrid DPS, and as a buffbot.
  • Wand / Staff can achieve the highest Cooldown Speed in the game allowing you to spam heals and abilities more often compared to other healers.
  • As a Wand / Staff build, you have Salvation Chain that allows you to pull party members from long ranges to safety, and Freeze enemies to save allies making you a great peeler during fights.
  • Talus's Resonance Staff and Lequirus' Grip improves your survivability as a Wand / Staff healer.
