Welcome to the Augmentation Evoker Mythic+ guide for the World of Warcraft patch 11.0! This guide covers everything you need to know to understand your character! Are you starting out and leveling up from 70? Check out the leveling guide!
Overview
Hero Talents
- For Mythic+ both Chronowarden and Scalecommander are at a similar power level. But currently Chronowarden is slightly better.
- If you have allies with 1.5 minute cooldown timings Scalecommander is a competitive choice.
- With more optimized gameplay and everyone aligns their cooldowns Chronowarden ends up better with current tuning.
- Temporal Burst turns Tip the Scales into a strong offensive cooldown that increases your Haste and cooldown recovery rate.
- The increased Haste, movement Speed and cooldown recovery rate buff effect is reduced by 1% every second during the 30s duration of Temporal Burst.
- The total reduced cooldown of your abilities is 4.65 seconds.
- Warp transforms your normal Hover into a Blink
- Be cautious as this has a small delay.
- This currently only works when you are on or close to solid ground, if you are too high up in the air it will become a normal Hover.
- Similar to your Mastery Threads of Fate causes your Empowered spells to provide an additional damage buff.
- This ability follows the same Targeting Priority as Shifting Sands.
- When timed correctly Temporality can be very strong as a minor defensive cooldown whenever you are out of everything else.
- Golden Opportunity
- This effect has now become chance based which complicates maximizing your output.
- Mass Eruption
- Fire Breath and Upheaval changes your next Eruption into a Mass Eruption that either strikes up to 3 targets or deals increased damage for each target less than 3.
- Mass Eruption can stack up to 2 which means you can cast both empower abilities back to back.
- Bombardments Is the major interaction of Scalecommander.
- Bombardments does not pandemic which allows you to cast two Mass Eruptions in a row without losing debuff uptime.
- This also maximizes Wingleader and allows you to make Breath of Eons a 1.5 minute cooldown when optimized.
- Diverted Power significantly increases the uptime of Momentum Shift.
- Hardened Scales and Nimble Flyer are both extremely effective defensive options and such should almost always be taken.
- Slipstream currently restores both charges of your Hover if Aerial Mastery is talented.
- This can be extremely useful in certain fights if additional Hover uptime is needed.
- Maneuverability
- Causes your Breath of Eons to always be aimed in front of your character and can now be steered.
- This also makes Breath of Eons fly the entire duration unless you cancel it early by pressing the ability once more.
- Be careful to not spam your Breath of Eons keybind as you might cancel it before it hits your target while still going on cooldown.
Talents
When to use this Spec
Use this spec in organized high Mythic+ keys. Chronowarden has extremely strong buffs, which means that in low Mythic+ you most likely won't gain the full value of your buffs and Breath of Eons due to how fast mobs perish.
Gameplay Altering Talents
Discover all talents that significantly alter your gameplay within the Spec and Class Talent trees. This section gives a concise overview of these talents and their applications but for a more detailed look check out the Rotation and Deep Dive sections below.
Spec Tree
- Ebon Might
- Your gameplay as an Augmentation Evoker revolves around optimizing and extending this buff.
- Prescience
- This causes the target to become the first priority for your Ebon Might and Shifting Sands.
- Anachronism causes Prescience to have a 35% chance of generating one Essence Burst.
- Breath of Eons
- Used as your major offensive cooldown in combination with Ebon Might and Prescience.
- Essence Burst
- Causes Eruption to apply Momentum Shift.
- Molten Embers
- Causes your Upheaval and Eruption to deal more damage.
Class Tree
- Rescue
- Use to save your friends by moving them or utilizing Twin Guardian.
- Optionally, use it as your own personal defensive in certain fights.
- Zephyr
- Used to reduce AOE damage across the entire party.
- Tip the Scales
- Used to activate Temporal Burst
- Used generally with Fire Breath
- Source of Magic
- Potent Mana buffs a friendly healer.
- Oppressing Roar
- Combine this with either Terror of the Skies or a friendly CC like Sigil of Silence.
- Cauterizing Flame
- Massive for certain encounters, often utilized as a bleed dispel for tank mechanics.
Hero Talents
- Temporality
- Since this functions as an extra defensive, it is fully locked in.
- Double-time
- Outperforms and is easier to play than Time Convergence.
- Instability Matrix
- Outperforms Master of Destiny.
When to use this Spec
Use this spec in disorganized or low to mid-range of Mythic+ keys. Scalecommander grants you more consistent and personal damage which is more valuable when enemies die fast.
Talent Adjustments

- Menacing Presence currently applies on immune targets, this will most likely be fixed.
- Diverted Power
- Outperforms Extended Battle with current tuning.
- Nimble Flyer
- Small damage reduction from AoE abilities but can still be the difference between living or dying.
Rotation
Tier Set
- 2-Set: Upheaval deals 30% increased damage and increases the damage of your next 2 Eruptions by 30%.
- 4-Set: Ebon Might increases primary stats by an additional 0.4% of your own every 2 seconds it remains active up to 2.0%
Single-Target
Opener
- Your goal in the opener is to quickly cast all your buffs and then maximize the effectiveness of Molten Embers as it heavily buffs your personal damage. Below, you can see an example of how your opener looks when using the recommended Chronowarden spec.
Priority List
This is a general priority you aim to maintain throughout the fight.
- Cast Ebon Might
- Cast Prescience
- Cast Breath of Eons
- Cast Fire Breath Empower 1
- Cast Upheaval Empower 1
- Cast Eruption with Essence Burst
- Cast Living Flame if Momentum Shift stacks = 2 and Essence < 4
- Cast Eruption
- Cast Living Flame or Azure Strike
Opener
- Your main goal with the Scalecommander opener is to quickly cast all your buffs and start maximizing the effectiveness of Bombardments. Below, you can see an example of how your opener looks when using the recommended Scalecommander spec.
Priority List
This is a general priority you aim to maintain throughout the fight.
- Cast Ebon Might
- Cast Prescience
- Cast Breath of Eons
- Cast Fire Breath Empower 1
- Cast Upheaval Empower 1
- Cast Eruption with Essence Burst
- Cast Living Flame if Momentum Shift stacks = 2 and Essence < 4
- Cast Eruption
- Cast Living Flame or Azure Strike
Multi Target
Generally, there are no changes to your rotation based on target count, the only possible change is for you to adapt to how long a pack lives and accordingly hold off using Ebon Might and Empowered abilities.
Deep dive
Upheaval and Eruption
- With the new expansion there are now multiple talents increasing your personal damage.
- Molten Embers
Rumbling Earth
Reverberations
Tectonic Locus - With these in mind, make sure to optimize your rotation.
- This includes never casting Fire Breath on higher than Empower 1.
- You should also never use Upheaval unless Molten Embers is active on the target.
- Molten Embers
Rescue
- Rescue is a great part of your toolkit as an Evoker. Using it optimally requires fight awareness, but it can often save your less mobile allies from sticky situations.
- When you don't need Rescue for its movement part, you should be looking to use it for the very potent defensive effect Twin Guardian as often as possible.
Hover
- Managing and timing your Hover casts correctly in combat to get more casts in while dealing with mechanics is where you see the biggest difference in your DPS. Optimizing your rotation is not that complex for Augmentation Evoker.
- Starting a cast of a spell such as Eruption at the very end of a Hover buff still lets you finish that specific cast while moving. Keep this in mind to get more benefit from each use of Hover!
- Make sure you are tracking your uptime and charges of Hover on your UI. Get really comfortable with utilizing this ability as it is the most significant unique strength of an Evoker.
Understanding Mechanics
Rotational min-maxing is just one aspect of mastering a specialization, but there are numerous other key mechanics that influence your performance. Use the following guides to improve them.

- If needed you can talent into Unravel for this affix.
- Xal'atath's Bargain: Oblivion
- Utilize Hover and intercept as many orbs as possible.
- Xal'atath's Bargain: Devour
- You can dispel it with Expunge and Cauterizing Flame.
Stat Priority
Understand your secondary stat priority and the tertiary stats needed for optimal performance during Mythic+ dungeons as a Augmentation Evoker. For more detailed information, visit the Stats and Attributes guide.
Higher Item level items are better in most scenarios. Generally you can find stat weights in the Evoker Augmentation discord. In the BiS gear there is more haste than technically optimal according to sims, but having more haste smoothens out the spec and makes it simpler to play.
All secondary stats are affected by diminishing returns. Click here to learn more!
Tertiary
- Avoidance - Great stat to reduce the damage intake of "Area of Effect" abilities.
- Leech - Provides additional healing through damage dealing. Most of your damage comes from buffed players, thus it becomes not optimal.
- Speed - Niche tertiary that can be very useful and has been proven useful in the past. Makes playing certain mechanics a lot easier.

Very rare items
- Sureki Zealot's Insignia
- Even though it does not have correct stats, this neck is still as effective on Augmentation as any other class, so if needed for the mana effect, you should equip this.
- Wings of Shattered Sorrow
- You should always equip this if available as long as it's a similar item level to your other cloak.
Trinkets
Below you can find active and passive alternatives to our recommended trinkets. Do note that some trinkets are better than others depending on the mythic+ dungeon.
Active Trinket alternatives
- Treacherous Transmitter
- Good option in general but exceptional for Scalecommander when planning around 1.5m cooldowns.
- Signet of the Priory
- Very strong farmable option for early gearing.
- This item can only be upgraded to 606 due to it coming from a Mythic Dungeon.
Passive Trinket alternatives
- Ovi'nax's Mercurial Egg
- If played well it competes with Mad Queen's Mandate and should be used until you have access to myth track Mad Queen's Mandate.
- Ara-Kara Sacbrood
- Decent damage and uptime on the Intellect buff
- Empowering Crystal of Anub'ikkaj
- Roughly 10% uptime on its stat buff.
- Unbound Changeling
- Great stat passive trinket with a somewhat high uptime.
Embellishments
As for your first Spark item its almost always the most efficient to craft either a staff or offhand. But going further into the patch you want to replace it with a Myth track weapon and change to BoB
- 1x Darkmoon Sigil: Ascension
- It can only be crafted on weapons or offhand.
with
- Writhing Armor Banding
- Doubles the effectiveness of your Darkmoon Sigil: Ascension
or
- 1x Elemental Focusing Lens
- Deals a decent amount of damage in single-target.
- The optimal slots to craft on are Wrists, Boots, Waist depending on your available gear.
- 1x Binding of Binding
- Augmentation scales worse from secondaries than other classes, due to that BoB is good.
Remaining Sparks
- Crafted items are 636 item level and regular items are 639 on max item level, therefore it is not beneficial to equip crafted items outside of your 2x embellishments unless you don't have access to other high item level gear on that slot.
Simcraft
To find the best combination of gear available to you or identify the best possible upgrades, visit our Simcraft guide to learn how to utilize Simcraft easily and effectively.
Augmentation Evoker is now technically supported on Raidbots, but they are very early alpha, and you are going to most likely get weird results.
- If you end up having issues with the simulations and have questions I might not be able to help, for such issues, you could need to ask in the Evoker Discord.
- DO NOT use Stat Weights Sims, they only affect your personal damage. As such, you won't be given relevant results.
- Use only Top Gear and Droptimizer.
- RDPS or "Raid DPS" is the damage dealt by your entire group. This is done because Augmentation is a Support that buffs other DPS therefore they are required for it to operate. Due to this and a few factors mentioned below, sims do not output the contribution of the Augmentation Evoker individually and can only provide comparisons. Thankfully, comparisons are all you need to optimize gear or talent choices.
Consumables
- Phials
- Flask of Tempered Mastery -- maximum DPS.
- Flask of Tempered Versatility -- less DPS but more survivability.

Log Review
- With pre-patch, roughly 50-55% of your damage as Augmentation is strictly from your buffs. Due to that, it is vital to buff the correct targets. For the easiest time, you look at Details and buff the top 4 players. The next stage is utilizing Warcraftlogs and buffing the top 4 DPS. For the last stage, you manually input your timings into Warcraftlogs and make decisions upon that.
- This Section is a WIP and will be continuously updated.
